The Barlochan Fold
The Barlochan Fold of pedigree Highland Cattle began in 2002 when we bought two Highland steers to graze a field next to our home. Now more than 160 gentle giants graze Galloway’s wild, rough landscape, their low impact grazing improving the biodiversity of the National Trust for Scotland land upon which they roam.
There’s a unique quality to these majestic beasts. Few people leave Barlochan Wood without being struck by the sheer rugged beauty of the Highlander, or the placid nature of both male and female animals.
Our intention is always to breed "the best" and we have invested in several of the top animals in the country. We aim to keep close to the original ancient Highland and Islands type, a hardy line that favours traits such as adaptability and personality over carcass size.
We spend time with each and every one of our Highlanders getting to know their characters, grooming them and making sure they are comfortable with being handled. It’s a privilege to own such magnificent animals and we are proud of the quality life they enjoy.
